A Civil Society Organization, Polling Unit Ambassador of Nigeria, PUAN, has vowed to police all polling units across the federation to expose perpetrators of vote trading for arrest and prosecution.
PUAN at a news briefing in Abuja said they would commenced a nationwide sensitization for the citizens to key into ending the menace of vote trading in Nigeria.
The Ambassador General of the Organization, Mr Suleiman Dabass, explained that Polling Unit Ambassador of Nigeria is partnering with the EFCC, ICPC, Nigerian Police and INEC to ensure total clamp down on the perpetrators of vote trading during elections.
“We are passing the message to the politicians who send their agents to go out to buy votes and of course, to the electorates who also wait for the politicians to sell their votes to them.
“We want to let you know that vote buying or vote selling is a crime and we are partnering with the EFCC, ICPC, INEC, the Nigerian police and all relevant authorities, so if you are caught the law will take its course.”
Mr. Dabass also suggested that the electoral body should adopt window blind cubicle system that would guarantee improved secrecy of voters during voting in an election.
“We want the cubicle to have a window blind at the entrance in such a way that whoever is casting vote should not be seen by people outside.
The Organization also urged INEC to make provision of envelope to put the ballot paper after vote cast before putting it in the ballot box.
The Polling Unit Ambassador of Nigeria, while encouraging the electorate to believe in the nation’s electoral system, said their votes would count when they go out en masse to vote the candidates of their choice.
