Call for Research Proposals in Nigeria

The TY Danjuma Foundation is announcing a call for research proposals on the following:

Control and Elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDS) in Nigeria: The Experience of the TY Danjuma Foundation and,

Reducing the Prevalence of Preventable Blindness in Nigeria: The Experience of the TY Danjuma Foundation.

The Foundation will be supporting research on reducing preventable blindness in Nigeria, with a special focus on its work from inception with Care Vision support initiative (CAVSI). ProHealth International (PHI). and Noroware Osula Health Foundation (NOHF).

  • For the research to be comprehensive and provide actionable recommendations for partners interested in reducing preventable blindness in Nigeria, the Foundation is seeking to explore the following in the course of the process.
  • The context of NTDs in Nigeria (prevalence of different types of NTDs. their causes, and how they exist among different segment of the population. a demonstration to show trends over the last two decades).
  • A situation analysis on NTDs in Nigeria and Taraba State (Government policy, financial and human resources available, access to healthcare facilities, and affordability of services).
  • Control and elimination of NTDs in Taraba State (Analysis of the work of the Foundation on controlling NTDs from inception, including detailed breakdown of different NTDs handled, services offered, people reached, and testimonies from beneficiaries).
  • Recommendations on the control and elimination of NTDs in Taraba state with a special focus on onchocerciasis (river blindness): detailing what government should do, and what development partners and individuals can do).
  • What are the prospects of elimination of onchocerciasis (river blindness) in Taraba State by 2030 (in line with WHO NTD Elimination Roadmap) without a vector control programme?
  • How recommendations for the Taraba State might be relevant to the rest of Nigeria.
  • Preparation and submission of two manuscripts to international peer-reviewed journals.

  • Budget: N 5,000,000.

Criteria

  • The Researcher / Reserach Team
    • The principle investigator should a seasoned researcher with a verifiable track record of piblished work on eye health or extensive experience working in eye health. Women are encouraged to apply.

    • A timeline for the research
